Non traditional Student

I believe that I should be considered for this nursing schlolarship because
I am a non-traditional student. What this means to me is that by being
non-traditional I have overcome other obstacles within my life and
sacrificed many things in order to come back to college and be enrolled in
my current nursing program.
I started out my college career right out of high school with intentions of
teaching. I have always had a desire to be involved with others. I have
always wanted to have a career that “makes a difference” something that
you can feel satisfied at the end of the day by actually helping someone.
Initially, I thought I would achieve through becoming a teacher.
Somewhere inbetween working full-time and attending college I managed to
have two wonderful children, both boys, who are now ages 7 and 9. As you may
know, raising children takes a lot of time and money. Because the latter of
those is not optional I stopped taking college classes to pick up extra
part-time jobs, to make ends meet. As the story goes on, I did suffer a
divorce and through those times have struggled financially. Since, then I
have been given a second chance to achieve my dream. I have been remarried
and now have more of an oppotunity to return to what I’d started.
My current wife is a nurse and absolutely LOVES her job. It is through
talkng with her that I’d become interested in the nursing profession. I
started the LPN program in August of 2008. I haved loved every minute so
far. I now realize that my dream of “helping” people is still there but I
will fulfullit differently now. I love working with patients and makng that
“difference” in thier day.
I believe that i shoud be considered for this schlorship becuase nursing
for me won’t ever be just a “job” it is a lifetime career of striving to
make a difference with patients and give them the best possible care they
can have. It is through doing this that I will also reap the reward of
feeling truely satisfied and fulfilled within my profession. Thank you for
